Easy A is easy on the eyes, easy on the mind, and easy on the heartstrings. Unfortunately its also a little easy on the comedy, too.
In the grand tradition of teenager-ising and hollywood-ising classic novels (think Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You etc) one high school girl who lies about having an easy virtue finds her life echoes similarities of the classic book The Scarlet Letter, which she just happens to be reading for lit class...
Emma Stone is a likeable lead as is Penn Badgley, and the story is entertaining if not a little worn, yet 'Easy A' manages to be a lot cleverer than many of today's high school offerings.
For a teen comedy 'Easy A' is a cut above the rest, but it's still pretty much a case of an enjoyable couple of hours escapism. It definitely doesn't say anything 'Mean Girls' didn't already cover.
